Question 1130050: The temperature in Brownsville fell from 25°F to −23°F in 8 minutes.
a. Write a numerical expression you can evaluate to find the average change in temperature per minute.
b. Find the mean change in temperature per minute.
Could you please explain the reasoning behind your answer such that I can explain to my child. This is my child's math homework who is a 6th grader.
Please note: I asked this question in the different area of this website and the tutor replied about how she has never heard temperature drop so quickly in nature!!! I did not make this question. It is straight out of my child's math textbook. As illogical as it may sound, the question is targeted at math and not weather accuracy.Would appreciate the answer please!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
temperature went down (-) 48 degrees (25-(-23)) in 8 minutes
that is -6 degrees per minute
One can also approach it as ending at - and starting at plus, so the drop was -23-25 or -48.
It went up and down 40 degrees in Spearfish, SD in 1943. Sharply defined cold fronts can produce marked changes in temperature.
I've experienced a 55 degree change in a day in the desert. :)
