Question 1173881: Solve the system of equations by finding a row echelon form for the augmented matrix.
x-3y+3z=16
3x-5y-3z=12
-5x+10y+z=-33
I know the augmented matrix is
1 -3 3 16
3 -5 -3 12
-5 10 1 -33
Whenever I try to get to the echelon matrix I always end up calculating something wrong... Please help.

We can't really help you with this.

Finding the row echelon form of the matrix by the Gauss-Jordan method requires a sequence of operations involving simple arithmetic; but it's aggravatingly easy to make silly errors along the way.

My personal (and extensive) experience with the process is that I rarely get all the way through the first time without making a simple error; often two or three tries are required.

Furthermore, although the operations that can be performed are well defined, ten solutions by ten tutors would probably use at least nine different paths; we can't show you THE way to do it.
