Question 204219: Using the Library, web resources, and/or other materials, find a real-life application of a linear function. State the application, give the equation of the linear function, and state what the x and y in the application represent. Choose at least two values of x to input into your function and find the corresponding y for each. State, in words, what each x and y means in terms of your real-life application. Please see the following example. Do not use any version of this example in your own post. You may use other variables besides x and y, such as x and W depicted in the following example. Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.
The average lifespan of American women has been tracked, and the linear model for the data is A = 0.2t + 73, where t = 0 corresponds to 1960. This implies that in 1980, t = 20, women lived an average of 77 years. A = 0.2(20) + 73 = 77. In addition, in 2000, t = 40, women lived an average of 81 years. A = 0.2(40) + 73 = 81.

Question 205427: The concept of slope arises in many practical applications. When designing and building roads, engineers and surveyors need to be concerned about the grade of the road. The grade, usually expressed as a percent, is one way to describe the steepness of the finished surface of the road. For example, a 5% grade means that the road has a slope (rise over run) of 0.05 = 5/100.
A.If a road has a 5% upward grade over a 1000-foot run how much higher will you be at the end of that run than at the beginning?
B.What is the grade of a road that rises 26 feet over a distance of 500 feet?

Question 205511: Help Help Help PLEASE!!!
The Sunshine Bakery sells pies at a fixed price of,p, per pie. The total number of pies demanded daily, D is related to the price, p, by the equation:
D=-10p+200
On the other hand, the daily supply of pies, S, is related to the price p per pie by the equation:
S=15p-50
Determine the equilibrium price of pies, i.e., the price at which the Supply S and Demand D are equal.

I set the problem up as
-10p+200=15p-50
-25p=-250
p=10
