Question 112244: I am working on a problem and I believe that I have come up with an answer, I would appreciate your input please.
Martina leaves home at 9am., traveling at a rate of 24mi/h. Two hours later, John leaves, driving at a rate of 48mi/h. At what time will John catch up with Martina?
Now I realize that John is traveling at twice the rate of speed as Martina is, so would I solve this by subtracting the difference between the rate of speed or would I add the two rates of speed. I believe that John will catch up to Martina at 12 noon.
Would the equation go something like this: T=RS (time=rate and speed)?

Question 112744: I do not have the ISBN # because my chapter is printed off since I am going to school on-line. I would appreciate some help on this problem please.
Sam must have an average of 70 or more on his summer course to obtain a grade of C. His first three test grades were 75, 63, and 68. Write an inequality representing the score that Sam must get on the last test to get a C grade.
I believe that the answer is a 69 for the final score. What I did was added the 3 scores and divided by 3, I hope this was right but I am unsure how to write it into an inequality.

I think that my teacher wants me to use the multiplication method. Like when you multiply one of the equations by something so that the y's or x's are exact opposites so they can add together and be solved. I just can't figure out what to add, nothing seems to work evenly.
