Question 793168: Question: Jacob has $6.00 in dimes and quarters. He has ten more quarters than dimes. How many dimes and quarters does he have?

I don't know how to set up these kinds of problems... I tried this, but I don't really know what to do after this---- $6.00= (10+q)dx ----- It's probably wrong but can you please explain how you set it up and why?? thank you SOOO much!!!!

I have so far attempted question a), in which I got the correct answer:
m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
m = 4-1/-1-1 = 3/-2 x 1/-3
m = 1/2
I have attempted question b) but i'm not really sure how to proceed. Let me show what I've tried:
m(BC) = 1/2
y - y1 = m (x - x1)
y - 4 = 1/2 (x+1)
y = 1/2x + 9/2
I'm not sure what to do next.

Question 797005: I have two Questions. My first one is, How do you algebraically figure out if vales of x and y can be the same?
For example, In this equation 12= 2x + 3y I can figure out through guess and check that the number 2.4 can be used for x and y at the same time.
Now for my next question.

I'm very rusty on math, im in college and have taken a few semesters off of math all together. i'm currently in college algebra.
