Question 59409: What are some easy steps in solving 2 equations with 2 variables by canceling out one variable while adding both equations together? Apparently when you get your answer, it is suppose to be (x,y) form and nothing else. I am just so confused because the curriculum I have for homeschooling doesn't explain it very well. I am taking an Algebra class online and I am having problems understanding this unit. I am to do all odd questions because answers are in the back of the book. I am using the 2006 book Intermediate Algebra Third Edition by Alan S. Tussy and R. David Gustafson.
I attempted the problem by dividing 3x, then by dividing with 2y, but I do not come up with the correct answer of -3/2. I also can't figure out why this is negative. Could someone please help me? Thanks. I was okay until this whole slope of a line unit, now I am so confused.
