In an ordered pair, the first number is the x value
and the second is y, so just put the values in:
5x+3y=17
5(-1)+3(-4)=17
-5-12=17
-17=17 FALSE: The point is not a solution
You can tell from the graph, the line does not cross (-1,-4).
