SOLUTION: Which of the following is a line which is perpendicular to the line 3x+7y+2=0?
The answer is 7x-3y+5=0
this is how I solve the problem.
3x+7y+2=0
y=-2/7-3x/7
-1/m= -1

Question 942419: Which of the following is a line which is perpendicular to the line 3x+7y+2=0?
The answer is 7x-3y+5=0
this is how I solve the problem.
3x+7y+2=0
y=-2/7-3x/7
-1/m= -1/-3/7=7/3
7/3= slope
y-y0=m (x-x0)
y=7/3(x-0)
y=7/3
bx+ay=0
7x+3y=0
Where did they get 7x-3y +5=0? Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! the slope of the line is 7/3 so you're correct there.
the equation of the line depends on the slope and the y-intercept.
many lines can have the slope of 7/3.
only one of them can pass through a certain point.
did they specify the point that the line goes through?
they usually do.
alternately, you may have just had to select a line that satisfies the criteria that the slope is 7/3 from the selections given.
that would have required you to find the slope of all the selections and then pick the one that had the slope of 7/3.
presumably only one of them would have had that slope.
