These two points have a slope on a cartesian coordinate system. The slope indicates one or another third point, forming a triangle. This third point (either of them) is at the vertex of a right angle. So you basically can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the hypotensue ---- which is the distance between your two given points.

For your points, A and B,
Distance Formula:
AB+=+sqrt%28%287-%28-1%29%29%5E2%2B%28-4-%28-2%29%29%5E2%29
Simplify and compute AB
