Question 844692: ON the lessons that involve finding the systems of equations...
one newspaper reported that the Mayor received a salary increased of 5 percent. Another paper reported that the Mayor's salary went up $2000. What was the mayor's salary before the increase?
I think one equation might be s+2,000=n (s being original salary and n being the new salary), but I am not positive. thank you for your time!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The 2 reports are saying that 5% of the mayors salary
amounted to $2,000
Let s+ = the mayor's salary before the increase
+.05s+=+2000+
+s+=+40000+
The mayor's salary was $40,000 before the increase
