No, x should be -2.
Multiply eq. 1 by 3 and eq. 4 by 3 and add them.
3%283x%2B4y%29%2B4%282x-3y%29=3%2814%29%2B4%28-19%29
9x%2B12y%2B8x-12y=42-76
17x=-34
x=-2
You just use either equation to solve for y.
3x%2B4y=14
3%28-2%29%2B4y=14
-6%2B4y=14
4y=20
y=5

Hi,
3x+4y=14
2x-3y=-19
9x+12y=42
8x-12y=-76
17x = -34
x = -2 |Always recommend caution with 'signs'
Using: 3x+4y=14 to find y (either of the original EQs work)
and y = 3%2A%28-2%29+%2B+4y+=+14, 4y = 20, y =highlight%28+5%29
CHECKING our answer***
Using: 2x-3y=-19
-2%2A2+-3%2A5+=+-19
