You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The way my brain works, I can't stand those pesky fractions. There are probably a dozen ways to solve this, but getting rid of the fraction is simplest for me. Whatever works!
2/3a-5=1/3a+5
If we multiply each side by 3, we can get rid of the fractions
2/3 * 3 = 2 and 1/3 * 3 = 1
3(2/3-5) = 3(1/3+5)
Distribute
2a-15 = 1a + 15
Subtract 1a from each side
1a - 15 = 15
Add 15 to each side
a = 30
.
The key is to isolate the variable. Remember that whatever you do to one side, do the same to the other.
Let's plug this in to see if it's correct.
2/3a-5=1/3a+5
2/3*30 - 5 = 1/3*30 + 5
20 - 5 = 10 + 5
Success!

%282%2F3%29a+-+5+=+%281%2F3%29a+%2B+5
2a%2F3+-+5+=+a%2F3+%2B+5
2a - 15 = a + 15 ------ Multiplying by LCD, 3
It's now easier to solve for a since the fractions were rid of.
You can then do a check!!
