Question 827087: They were teaching us linear equations in class today but i did not understand how to solve them so i tried to use the example from our textbook which was
0.3-2=1.5x-0.4
-1.2x=1.6
x=1.6/-1.2
x=-4/3
but i don't understand how they received the answer. moving onto the homework we received they gave us a graph that had points a,b,c,d,and e plotted and gave us this information: the diagram shows the ferry routs between the points surrounding a harbor. the distance between the grid lines is 500ft so for example one question is route:A to D equation: y=0.2x+2,200 since they only gave us one side how would i solve this equation?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You mean this:

0.3x-2=1.5x-0.4
-1.2x=1.6--- combined possible two steps; Additive Inverse of 0.3x, and of -0.4
x=1.6%2F-1.2--- Multiplicative Inverse of -1.2
x=-4%2F3---- simplification or computation
You were missing factor of x in the first line step or the given equation.

The description of the homework problem is unclear. We need to see exactly the given picture or diagram, and read the exact problem description wording and question.
