Hi,
parellel lines have identical slopes
(1, a) and
(4, -2) m+=+%28a%2B2%29%2F%28-3%29
(2, 8) and
(-7, a + 4) m+=+%288+-%28a%2B4%29%29%2F9
%28a%2B2%29%2F%28-3%29+=+%288+-%28a%2B4%29%29%2F9 |Multiplying thru by 9 so as all denominators = 1
-3(a+2) = 8-(a+4)
-3a - 6 = 8 -a - 4
-10 = 2a
-5 = a
and...
(1, -5) and
(4, -2) m = -3/-3 = 1
(2, 8) and
(-7, -1) m = 9/9 = 1
