-9%2Bx=5x-7......subtract x from both sides
-9%2Bx-x=5x-x-7...eliminate x and -x on left side
-9=5x-x-7.......add 7 to both sides
-9%2B7=5x-x-7%2B7.........eliminate -7 and 7 on right side
-2=4x
-2%2F4=x...simplify
-1%2F2=x

-9 = 4x-7
---
Add 7 to both sides of the equation:
-9+7 = 4x-7+7
---
-2 = 4x
---
Divide both sides by 4 to get:
x = -1/2
