Using the standard slope-intercept form for an equation of a line y = mx + b

  where m is the slope and b the y-intercept.

perpendicular to y= 2x-1 ( m = 2), contains (2,7)

New Line:  m+=+-1%2F2 Note: negative reciprocal of 2

 y = (-1/2)x + b

 7 = (-1/2)·2  + b   |Using ordered pair (x,y): (2,7)  to solve for b

 8 = b

 y = (-1/2)x + 8
