You can put this solution on YOUR website! Graph the following equations; calculate the slope, x-intercept, and y-intercept, and label the intercepts on the graph.
7.1x - 3.9y = 1.4
To find the x intercept let y=0 and solve for x.
7.1x-3.9(0)=1.4
7.1x-0=1.4
7.1x/7.1=1.4/7.1
x=.1971830986 Round it off to whatever your teacher asks for, I'm going with x=.197.
Plot (.197,0) It will be just a touch to the right of the origin.
To find the slope and the y-intercept, let's put the equation in slope intercept form: , m=slope and (0,b)=y-intercept
7.1x-7.1x-3.9y=-7.1x+1.4
-3.9y=-7.1x+1.4
-3.9y/-3.9=-7.1x/-3.9+1.4/-3.9
y=1.820512821x-.358974359 Rond off to where ever your teacher asks for. I'm going with:
y=1.82x-.36
The slope is m=1.82
The y-intercept is: (0,-.39) Plot this, it's below the origin almost to -.5
I can't label points on the graph for you, but the graph shoud look like this:
I'm only making this a 2X2 window because the x and y intercepts are so close to the origin that you might think the graph was going through the origin otherwise:

Happy Calculating and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
