for this problem, it tells you that the slope or rate is negative 29 million because you are losing 29 million acres of forest each year. to put this into an equaion or function would be: f(x)= -29,000,000x
f(x) stands for the change in acres of forest. and x stands for the number of years.
to find what f(9) equals you have to plug 9 in for x in the equation f(x)= -29,000,000x
that would give you f(x)= -29,000,000(9) and once you multiply 9 by -29,000,000 you get a change of -261,000,000
that number means that after 9 years there will be 261,000,000 acres less of forest
