Question 610639: Find the slope and the y-intercept of the line. Write fractional answers in lowest terms. I am mainly having problems on finding the formulas to solve the equation. I just do not know where to start. Please help!
6y + 5x + 7 = 12 + 5x

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In order to find the slope and y-intercept of the line,
you must get the equation into the form
+y+=+m%2Ax+%2B+b+ . In fact, this is called the slope-intercept form.
+m+ = slope
+b+ = y-intercept
-----------------
+6y+%2B+5x+%2B+7+=+12+%2B+5x+
Subtract 5x from both sides
+6y+%2B+7+=+-5x+%2B+5x+%2B+12+
Subtract +7+ from both sides
+6y+=+-7+
Divide both sides by 6
+y+=+-7%2F6+
Believe it or not, this is now in the correct form.
If I say
+m+=+0+
+b+=+-7%2F6+, then
+y+=+mx+%2B+b+ is
+y+=+0%2Ax+%2B+%28-7%2F6%29+
+y+=+-7%2F6+
So, the slope is 0 and the
y-intercept is +-7%2F6+
