You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find an equation of each line, and write it in slope intercept form
through (-2,3) and (6,-1)
In order to write the equation of a line, we need a slope and a point. We don't have a slope, but we can find it when given two points, using the slope formula:highlight%28m=%28y2-y1%29%2F%28x2-x1%29%29
(x1,y1)=(-2,3) and (x2,y2)=(6,-1)
m=%28-1-3%29%2F%286-%28-2%29%29
m=-4%2F%286%2B2%29
m=-4%2F8
m=-1%2F2
Now we can use the point slope formula to find the equation of a line:highlight%28y-y1=m%28x-x1%29%29, m=slope, (x1,y1)=a given point.
m=-1/2 and (x1,y1)=(-2,3)
y-3=%28-1%2F2%29%28x-%28-2%29%29
y-3=%28-1%2F2%29%28x%2B2%29
y-3=%28-1%2F2%29x-2%2F2
y-3=%28-1%2F2%29x-1
y-3%2B3=%28-1%2F2%29x-1%2B3
highlight%28y=%28-1%2F2%29x%2B2%29
This is in slope intercept form: highlight%28y=mx%2Bb%29
Happy Calculating!!!
