Question 589078: I am freaking lost. I am taking survey of mathematics and I am at a loss. I have 20 problems due tomorrow and am stuck on #5 have been for days.
4x - 4y = 1 I. Need the solution for y. How am I going to make it through this term it is only week three?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x - 4y = 1 I. Need the solution for y.
use the rules of algebra to isolate y
Add 4y to both sides
4x - 4y + 4y = 1 + 4y
4x = 4y + 1
Subtract 1 from both sides
4x - 1 = 4y + 1 - 1
4x - 1 = 4y
y has to have coefficient of 1, divide both sides by 4
4%2F4x - 1%2F4 = 4%2F4y
which gives you
1x - 1%2F4 = 1y
or we can just write it
x - 1%2F4 = y
usually written
y = x - 1%2F4
:
Don't be discouraged, it's really not that hard, just remember whatever you do to one side of an equation, do the same to the other side
