You can put this solution on YOUR website!
i need help solving some problems, so i know how to do this kind of thing,
:
Know the slope formula: m = %28y2-y1%29%2F%28x2-x1%29
:
(6,r),(2,5);slope=-3
we assign the values as follows
x1 = 6; y1 = r
x2 = 2; y2 = 5
m = -3
From this we have
%285-r%29%2F%282-6%29 = -3
%285-r%29%2F%28-4%29 = -3
multiply both sides by -4, gets rid of the denominator
5 - r = -4(-3)
-r = +12 - 5
-r = 7
r = -7; multiplied both sides by -1
you can check this in the original equation using this value for r, ensure it equals -3
Remember minus a minus, is a plus
:
(1,-4),(r,2);slope=-3/2
x1 = 1; y1 = -4
x2 = r; y2 = 2
%282-%28-4%29%29%2F%28r-1%29 = -3%2F2
%282%2B4%29%2F%28r-1%29 = -3%2F2
6%2F%28r-1%29 = -3%2F2
multiply both sides by 2(r-1), to get rid of the denominators, results:
2(6) = -3(r-1)
12 = -3r + 3
3r = 3 - 12
3r = -9
r = %28-9%29%2F3
r = -3
Check this also in the original equation
:
:
(-4,8), (-6,r):slope=3/2
x1=-4; y1=8
x2=-6; y2=r
%28r-8%29%2F%28-6-%28-4%29%29 = 3%2F2
%28r-8%29%2F%28-6%2B4%29 = 3%2F2
%28r-8%29%2F%28-2%29 = 3%2F2
Multiply by -2, results
r - 8 = -1(3)
r = -3 + 8
r = 5
to check this
%285-8%29%2F%28-2%29 = 3%2F2
%28-3%29%2F%28-2%29 = 3%2F2
