You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2 x -5 y = -1 .............1
-3 y = -3 -1 x ---------2
/ -3 =
y = 1 + 0.33 x
Substitute y in (1)
2 x -5 ( 1 + 0.33 x ) = -1
2 x -5 + -1.67 x = -1
2 x -1.67 x = -1 5
0.33 x = 4
/ 0.33
x= 12
Plug the value of x in (1)
2 x -5 y = -1
2 * 12 -5 y = -1
24 -5 y = -1
-5 y = -25
/ -5
y= 5

find the solution to the system 2x - 5y = -1 and x - 3y = -3 by the substitution method

2x - 5y = - 1 -------- eq (i)

x - 3y = - 3 ------ x = - 3 + 3y ------ eq (ii)

Substituting (- 3 + 3y) for x in equation 1 results in:

2(- 3 + 3y) - 5y = - 1

- 6 + 6y - 5y = - 1 ------- highlight_green%28y_=_5%29

Substituting 5 for y in eq (ii) results in: x = - 3 + 3(5) -------- highlight_green%28x_=_12%29
