You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Determine in each the gradient and equation of the line joining the two points
Determine the co-ordinates for the X- intercept and Y - intercept for each of the lines
(-3,4) and (9, 12)
..
Using point-slope formula to find slope or gradient as you call it.
y1-y2=m(x1-x2)
m=(y1-y2)/(x1-x2)=change in y/change in x
m=(12-4)/(9-(-3))=8/12=2/3
Standard form for equation of line: y=mx+b, m=slope, b= y-intercept
To find b, plug in x and y from either of given points like (9,12) into the standard form, then solve for b
12=(2/3)*9+b
b=12-6=3
Equation:
y=(2/3)x+3
y-intercept=3
To find x-intercept, set y=0, then solve for x
0=(2/3)x+3
(2/3)x=-3
2x=-9
x=-9/2
ans:
Equation of line: y=(2/3)x+3
y-intercept=3
x-intercept=-9/2
