To solve means "where does it cross the x-axis?" The x-axis is the line y=0, so we put y equal to zero and find the value(s) of x resulting from that.

5x+2y=10
5x+2(0)=10
5x=10
x = 10/5
x = 2

You cannot solve for 2 unknowns from 1 equation. You are missing an equation.
