The line has the characteristic that every ordered pair representing a point on the line has the exact same -coordinate, namely 1.

The denominator of the slope formula is the difference between the -coordinates of two points on a line. If the -coordinates are identical, the difference is zero. That gives you a zero denominator, hence the slope is undefined.
