Question 338737: Sketch a graph of a relation that is not a function. Explain why it is not a function.
I don't even know how to graph a function that is a relation.
I just need a example. But the explainion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

---------------
A circle is a relation and is not a function.
----
It is a relation because it is a set of ordered pairs.
It is not a function because for each x value there
are two y values.
---
Draw a circle with center at the origin and radius of 5.
The equation is x^2 + y^2 = 25
y = +/-sqrt[25-x^2]
---
If x = 1 y = +/-sqrt(24)
Notice that this x value has two correspondeing y values.

x%5E2+%2B+y%5E2+=+25 is a relation, but not a function.
It's not a function because there is not a 1 to 1 relationship of values.
ie, you can sub +1 and -1 for x (or y) and find the same value for the other variable.
