Question 32177: how do you plot ordered pairs? -4x+y=8
thank you for your time!
Answer by QueenVoda(11) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you have a graphing calculator you can tell the calculator to do it for you. Then go from there. First in doing it you would need to get the y all by itself becouse the graghing calculator is set up for you to enter it as Y equals then you put in your number. To do that you would have to move -4x over across the equals sign (=). It would look like: y = 4x + 4. By seeing the gragh it may help you plot the ordered pairs, but I know your instuctor will wish for you to show you work. So this is how to plot ordered pairs. Start by pretending that x is zero and sove it. Then pretend that y is zero and solve it. make a little chart on the side of your paper to help you.
x y
____
0 8
____
-2 0
If you make x zero then you'll get 8. If you make y zero you'll get -2. You can plug in numbers for x and contiune to plot points, and draw your gragh. Some times it is helpfull to plug in more numbers to make sure the gragh you are doing is correct. You can plot as many points as you like.
For example these are plotted points:
x y
-4 -8
-3 -4
-2 0
-1 4
0 8
1 12
2 16
I hope this helped....
