Question 318384: Please help to solve this equation. I'm getting messed up right off the bat with the -4... or did I do it correctly?
-3 -4(t-5)= -2(t +3) +11
This is what I did...
-3 - 4t + 20 = -2t – 6 + 11
-4t + 2t = 3 – 6 + 11 - 20
-2t = -12
t = -12/2 = -6

Is it correct ? THANKS!!! --Sandy

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

-3-4%28t-5%29=-2%28t%2B3%29%2B11 Start with the given equation.

-3-4t%2B20=-2t-6%2B11 Distribute.

17-4t=-2t-6%2B11 Combine like terms on the left side.

17-4t=5-2t Combine like terms on the right side.

-4t=5-2t-17 Subtract 17 from both sides.

-4t%2B2t=5-17 Add 2t to both sides.

-2t=5-17 Combine like terms on the left side.

-2t=-12 Combine like terms on the right side.

t=%28-12%29%2F%28-2%29 Divide both sides by -2 to isolate t.

t=6 Reduce.

Answer:

So the solution is t=6

So you're off by a sign because you misplaced one, but it looks like you know what you're doing.
