You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let a = amount invested at 6%
Let b = amount invested at 10%
given:
(1) a+%2B+b+=+5000
(2) .06a+%2B+.1b+=+420
----------------------
Multiply both sides of (2) by 100
Then multiply both sides of (1) by 6
and subtract from (2)
(2) 6a+%2B+10b+=+42000
(1) -6a+-6b+=+-30000
4b+=+12000
b+=+3000
And, since
a+%2B+b+=+5000
a+=+5000+-+3000
a+=+2000
He must invest $2000 @ 6% and $3000 @ 10%
