You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I need to solve this by the substitution method
5x + 2y = -29
x = 8-5y
it says the solution is a ordered pair:
:
5x + 2y = -29
x = 8-5y
:
From the 2nd equation we know we can substitute (8-5y) for x in the 1st equation
5(8-5y) + 2y = -29
Multiply what's inside the brackets
40 - 25y + 2y = -29
-23y = -29 - 40
-23y = -69
Multiply both sides by -1
23y = 69
y = 69%2F23
y = 3
:
Substitute 3 for y in the 2nd equation, find x
x = 8 - 5*(3)
:
x = 8 - 15
x = -7
:
Ordered pair: -7, 3
:
:
Check the solutions in the 1st equation
5(-7) + 2(3) = -29
