The object of an equation is to find what the variable equals, so you want to get the variable by itself;
2x+5=3x
We will subtract 2x from both sides;
2x+5-2x=3x-2x
5=x
-8x-70=2x
Since 8x is negative we wil add 8x to both sides;
-8x-70+8x=2x+8x
-70=10x
Divide each side by 10;
-70%2F10=%2810x%29%2F10
-7=x
-2x=-3x+8
Add 3x to both sides;
-2x+3x=-3x+8+3x
x=8
