8y+-+5y+-+2+=+16 simplify
3y+-+2+=+16 add 2 to each side
3y+=+18 divide both sides by 3
y+=+6

Then combine like terms.
3y-2=16
Keep y terms on the left side and move non y terms to the right side by adding 2 to both sides of the equation.
