Determine whether (-8,9) is a solution of 4x - 7y = 18

Step 1. (-8,9) means x=-8 and y=9. So substitute these values in above equation.


Step 2. Substituting the above values into above equation will yield

4x-7y=18

4%28-8%29%2B7%289%29=18%3F


-32%2B63=18%3F


29=18%3F

Step 3. Since the 29 does not equal to 18 then the point (-8,9) is not a solution to the equation.
