3w-2(w-4/3)=1/3
w=-1 but how did they get this answer???

I think the problem is as shown below. You need to be 'really careful'. Is that correct? Do yourself a favor and don't be stingy with parens
3w-+2%28%28w-4%29%2F3%29+=+1%2F3+ multiply everything by 3 to clear the denominators
9w+-+2%28w-4%29+=+1
9w+-+2w+%2B+8++=+1
7w+=+-7
w+=+-1
