Question 173930: I need to determine the value of 'r' so that the pair of points has the indicated slope for the following equation (-4,8) and (r,6), m=2/3. I was able to get this far:
Y2-Y1/X2-X1 = 6-8/r-(-4) = 2/3 now I am stuck. Please help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You are spot on so far.

%286-8%29%2F%28r%2B4%29=2%2F3

%28-2%29%2F%28r%2B4%29=2%2F3

Now, just like any other proportion, cross multiply, collect terms and solve for r:

2%28r%2B4%29=-6

2r%2B8=-6

2r=-14

r=-7
