Question 173016: I don't know what the steps are to find an answer. I am 50 years old and have never taken algebra, so it dosen't make a lot of sence to me, but here is the problem: solve the system of equations by graphing
y= -1/4x-4, 5x-4y=40
also 8x-9y=-54, 8x=9y-54
I am studying on line using Developmental Mathematics - Basic Mathematics and Algebra
by Lial, Hornsby, McGinnis, Salzman and Hestwood
© 2008 Pearson - Addison Wesley as the text book
I have tried to make a table, but it dosent work. I just don't understand the steps or know what steps to use to answer these questions. please help, thank you rebecca Leon

You can put this solution on YOUR website! y= -1/4x-4 or y=-x/4-4 (red line)
5x-4y=40 or -4y=-5x+40 or y=-5x/-4+40/-4 or y=5x/4-10 (green line)
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, of TWO functions -x/4 -4 and 5x/4 -10).
ANSWER (4,-5)
8x-9y=-54 or -9Y=-8X-54 or y=-8x/-9-54/-9 or y=8x/9+6 (red line)
8x=9y-54 or 9y=8x+54 or y=8x/9+54/9 or y=8x/9+6 (green line)
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -8 to 5, y from -10 to 10, of TWO functions 8x/9 +6 and 8x/9 +6).
NO UNIQUE SOLUTION HERE BECAUSE THESE ARE 2 IDENTICAL EQUATIONS WITH 2 UNKNOWNS.
