: Hi! Now I need help with test question #15....Write an equation of the line that passes thru the given point and is (a) parallel to the given line and (b) perpendicular to the given line....(2,0),y=-5x+3..thanks SO much! still confused mom This question is from textbook

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given:....(2,0),y=-5x%2B3..
a)We know if it's parallel to the given Line y=-5x%2B3, they do have the same slope=m=-5
Therefore, thru points (2,0):
0=-5%2A2%2Bb
b=10
So the eqn is ----->highlight%28y=-5x%2B10%29, Answer
As we see inthe graph;

---> RED>>>> y=-5x%2B3; GREEN>>>>y=-5x%2B10
b) Now it;s perpendicular:m%5B2%5D=-1%2Fm%5B1%5D
So, m%5B2%5D=-1%2F%28-5%29=1%2F5
Then, thru points (2,0)
0=%281%2F5%292%2Bb
b=-2%2F5
Then eqn ----------->highlight%28y=%281%2F5%29x-%282%2F5%29%29
As we see the graph:
--->RED, y=-5x%2B3; GREEN, %281%2F5%29x-%282%2F5%29
Thank you,
