Question 172523: Hope you can help! I have three questions. 1. Find the slope and the y-intercept of the line. Write fractional answer in the lowest terms. 4y+4x+9=12+4x Slope is__. The y-intercept is (0,_). second question. Find the slope if it exist, of the line containing the pair of points (8,10) and (9,-8) the slope m=__. The third question. Write an equation of the line containing the given point and parallel to the given line. Express your answer in the form y=mx+b (-7,8);2x=7y+5 Simplify answer use integer or fraction for any expression.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1)4y+4x+9=12+4x---> combine like terms
:
4y=3
:
y=3/4.......so line is horizontal....meaning slope is highlight%280%29 take any two points on the line to show this (1,3/4), (2,3/4) m= (3/4)-(3/4)/2-1=0/1=0
y intercept is highlight%283%2F4%29
:
2)slope is change in y over change in x points (8,10) and (9,-8)
highlight%28m=%28-8-10%29%2F%289-8%29=-9%2F1=-9%29
:
3)any parallel lines have equal slopes.....so first we need to write our equation in y=mx+b format to find the slope. 2x=7y+5--->7y=2x-5-->y=(2/7)x-5/7
:
so m=2/7....so again a line parallel will have this same slope
:
(-7,8) is our point......using the point slope formula we get
:
y-8=(2/7)(x-(-7))
:
y-8=(2/7)x+2

1. Find the slope and the y-intercept of the line. Write fractional answer in the lowest terms. 4y+4x+9=12+4x Slope is__. The y-intercept is (0,_).
4y=-4x-9%2B12%2B4x
4y=3
y=3%2F4 y-intercept; Slope=m=0
.
second question. Find the slope if it exist, of the line containing the pair of points (8,10) and (9,-8) the slope m=__.
Via Slope form: m=%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29
m=%28-8-10%29%2F%289-8%29=-18%2F1
highlight%28m=-18%29
.
The third question. Write an equation of the line containing the given point and parallel to the given line. Express your answer in the form y=mx+b (-7,8);2x=7y+5
2x=7y%2B5 --->7y=2x-5 --->cross%287%29y%2Fcross%287%29=%282x-5%29%2F7
y=%282%2F7%29x-%285%2F7%29 ---->Line 1------->m%5B1%5D=2%2F7
Remember for parallel lines: m%5B2%5D=m%5B1%5D
Then, m%5B2%5D=%282%2F7%29
Thru points (-7,8):
8=%282%2F7%29%28-7%29%2Bb=%28-14%2F7%29%2Bb=-2%2Bb
b=8%2B2=10
Therefore ------> highlight%28y=%282%2F7%29x%2B10%29%29, Answer (Line 2)
We'll see the graph:
