Question 163675: Hi....I am having a really hard time with word problems. I am not sure how to make this into an equation. Please help!!!
Assume car 1 costs $20,000 to buy and 20 cents per mile to operate, and car 2 costs $25,000 to buy and 16 cents to operate. How many miles must the cars be driven before the costs are the same? What is the cost per car at that moment?
Thank You...Kathy Gafford

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 20,000+.20x=25,000+.16x
.20x-.16x=25,000-20,000
.04x=5,000
x=5,000/.04
x=125,000 miles they will have cost the same.
20,000+.20*125,000
20,000+25,000=$45,000 total cost of each car.
