You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Can you help me set this problem up? The problem reads: If the rental on a car is a fixed price per day plus $0.28 per mile, what was the fixed price per day if the total paid was $140 and the car was driven for 250 mled in two days?
.
A "fixed price" will be charged each day you rent the car
AND
For each mile you drive, you will be charged 28 cents
.
Two other important information are also given:
total days rented: 2 days
total miles driven: 250 miles
total cost: $140
.
Therefore:
(# of days rented)(fixed cost) + (number of miles driven)(cost per mile) = total cost
.
Or mathematically:
Let x = "fixed cost per day"
2x + 250(.28) = 140
.
Did you follow how we derived the equation? Can you follow the logic?
