Question 155710: x - 4y = -18
3/4 + (1/4)y = x
A(4, -1)
B(-3, 2)
C(-5, 2)
D(2, 5)
E(-2, -4)
FNo Solution

I tried to solve both equations for y:
z=x+18/4
y=4x-3
but when i tried to find which of the solutions choices were correct, i couldnt come to any of them. Im not sure if i solved for y wrong, or what im doing thats incorrect. Id like to kno the correct choice and how to come to it. Thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve:
x-4y+=+-18
%283%2F4%29%2B%281%2F4%29y+=+x Substitute this for x in the first equation.
%28%283%2F4%29%2B%281%2F4%29y%29-4y+=+-18 Multiply through by 4 to clear the fractions.
3%2By-16y+=+-72 Combine like-terms (the y's).
3-15y+=+-72 Subtract 3 from both sides.
-15y+=+-75 Divide both sides by -15.
y+=+5 Now substitute this for y in either of the two original equations.
x-4y+=+-18 Substitute y = 5.
x-4%285%29+=+-18 Simplify.
x-20+=+-18 Add 20 to both sides.
x+=+2
The solution is: (2, 5)
