you have to substitute one variable into an equation, here is easy to find y using the first so y=7x+4 now substistuting in the second we have
2x+8(7x+4)=0 then 58x+32=0 then x=-32/58=-16/29
y=7x+4=7(-16/59)+4=-112/59+4=-112/59+236/59=124/59
then solution is (-16/29,124/59)
