Let x be the number of students; then the number of non-students is (420-x).


The total revenue equation is


    2.50x + 4.50*(420-x) = 1260   dollars.


From the equation,


    x = %281260-4.50%2A420%29%2F%282.50-4.50%29 = 315.


ANSWER.  315 students  and  420-315 = 105 non-students.


CHECK.   315*2.50 + 4.50*105 = 1260  dollars.    ! Precisely correct !
