Question 1150155: Request for scooters were exceptionally high this Christmas season. Santa counted one more than triple the number of bikes as scooters. If there were a total of 1809 bikes and scooters altogether how many scooters were you requested this year.
(Btw if you could just give me the equation that would be ok as well) Answer by ikleyn(52803) (Show Source):
Let x be the number of scooters.
Then the number of bikes was 3x+1.
For the total money, you have this equation
x + (3x+1) = 1809
Simplify and solve
4x = 1808
x = 1808/4 = 452 scooters. ANSWER
