Question 111385: (x-4)/2 -1/5 = (7x +1)/20
Answer by BrittanyM(80) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Our first step is to get a common denomonator so we can cancel it out and word with whole numbers.
Multiply (x-4)/2 by 10 in order for the denomonator to equal 20.
Multiply 1/5 by 4 in order to get 20.
Now, we may cancel out the denomonators on both sides of the equation.
That leaves us with 10(x-4)-4=(7x+1)
Now, using the distributive proporty, we have
10x-40-4=7x+1
3x=45
x=15
