Question 1100268: The whole numbers from 10 to 12 are paired with their factors. Explain why this pairing of numbers does not describe a function.
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the whole numbers 10, 11, and 12 are paired with their factors, at least one of the numbers (x) has two different factors (y) with the exception of 11.
(10, 2) (10,5)
(12, 2) (12, 3) (12, 4) (12, 6)
There are x values with two different y-values. This violates the rule of a function.
