Each side is 2x%2B1. There are 4 of these sides that are the same length. So we multiply that side length by 4 and set it equal to the perimeter of 28

4%2A%282x%2B1%29+=+28

Let's solve this equation for x

4%2A%282x%2B1%29+=+28

8x%2B4+=+28

8x%2B4-4+=+28-4

8x+=+24

8x%2F8+=+24%2F8

x+=+3

Now we use the fact that x = 3 to find the side length

2x%2B1+=+2%2A3%2B1+=+6%2B1+=+7

So each side length of this square is 7 inches. You can simply divide 28 over 4 to see this

28/4 = 7
