There are two lines in a graph, they are called "coordinates".

The up-down line (vertical line) is called the "y"
The side-to-side line (horizontal line) is called the "x"

You need both, the y and x in order to graph the equation.

y = -x2-4x+5
y = -(x^2 + 4x) + 5
y = -[(x+2)^2 -4] + 5
y = -(x+2)^2 +9 Parabola opening Downward -1 < 0
V(-2, 9) when y = 0 (x+2) = ±3, x = 1 or x = -5
x = -2 the Line of symmetry Blue
