a company had sales of $500,000 in 1996 and sales of $720,000 in 1998. use the midpoint formula to find the company"s sales in 1997.
------------
(500,000 + 720,000)/2 = 250000+360000 = 610,000

The midpoint formula is
(x[mid], y[mid]) = %28x%5B1%5D%2Bx%5B2%5D%29%2F2,+%28y%5B1%5D%2By%5B2%5D%29%2F2
so that (500,000 + 720,000)/2 = $610,000
Of course (1996 + 1998)/2 = 1997
